Samsung Galaxy Book Pro: Super-light Notebooks with AMOLED display, optional LTE, and second display feature with Galaxy Tab S7

The LG Gram notebooks have competition. With a weight of 870 grams, the 13.3-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is probably one of the lightest laptops on the market, the 15.6-inch Samsung Book weighs barely more than one kilogram. With a super-light 870 gram housing or, in the case of the 15.6-inch model, just 1.05 to 1.15 kilograms, Samsung’s 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch mini notebook Samsung Galaxy Book Pro presented today at the Unpacked Event belong Inch versions of the lightest notebooks on the market. Similar to the LG Gram lightweight notebooks, they retain a lot of connections, specifically one USB-C with Thunderbolt 4, one USB-C, one USB-A 3.2, HDMI, micro SD card slot, and, 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The Galaxy Book Pro laptops, which come with an EVO certificate and Tiger Lake chips according to Intel’s specifications, differ quite a lot from the LG Grams because Samsung exclusively uses its Vesa DisplayHDR 500 certified Super AMOLED displays, which are also only available with Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, so classic 16:9 format. The batteries are quite large with a capacity of 63 Wh and 68 Wh respectively; when it comes to sound, Samsung relies on AKG speakers and Dolby Atmos, the webcam remains a 720p version.

Charging is via a 65-watt USB-C charger, in connection with a Galaxy Tab S7 or Tab S7+ (available from $599 on Amazon) you can wirelessly convert the Samsung tablet into a second display and continue to use the S-Pen there – Somehow that is reminiscent of Apple’s sidecar feature. In addition to the Galaxy Book Pro, Samsung today also presented the convertible version Galaxy Book Pro 360, some with a 5G modem, and the regular Galaxy Book.

Price and availability

Samsung Galaxy Book Pro price starts from $999 for the base model with Intel Core i5-1135G7, 256GB storage and is already available to pre-order on the Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.com online shops. The notebook will be available in Mystic Silver and Mystic Blue colors and shipping starts from May 14, 2021.
