MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo and 16 AI Studio Evo with Intel Meteor Lake, AI, and RTX 4070

MSI unveils its latest innovations with the Prestige 16 AI Evo and Prestige 16 AI Studio Evo laptops, housing Intel Core Ultra (Meteor Lake) processors. Following the Prestige 13 AI Evo, Acer Swift Go 14, and Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i Gen 9, MSI’s new lineup echoes Intel’s emphasis on processors embedded with an artificial intelligence accelerator, denoted by the “AI” abbreviation in the laptops’ nomenclature.

The MSI Prestige 16 AI Evo and Prestige 16 AI Studio Evo boast Core Ultra chips, harnessing the power of Intel Core Ultra H-series processors like the Ultra 7 155H and Ultra 9 185H. These laptops integrate a dedicated neural engine NPU, enhancing AI task acceleration while lightening the load on the integrated graphics processor. The younger model relies solely on integrated Arc graphics, while the Prestige 16 AI Studio Evo, catering to creative users, features discrete graphics options with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070.

Buyers can opt for two screen configurations: a standard 2560 × 1600-pixel display or an OLED panel offering 3840 × 2400 pixels. The regular Prestige 16 AI Evo accommodates integrated LPDDR5-6400 RAM of 16 or 32 GB, while the Studio model offers 32 GB exclusively. Storage solutions provide SSD capacities of up to 2 TB.

Both 16-inch MSI Prestige models house a robust 99.9 Wh battery. The standard Arc graphics versions come with a 100 W power adapter, while the Studio variant enjoys a more potent 140 W adapter. MSI boasts a battery life of up to 14 hours for the Prestige 16 AI Evo. The laptops are equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports, USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2, and dual USB Type-C ports.

Furthermore, the Prestige 16 AI Evo features two Thunderbolt 4 ports, while the AI Studio Evo model houses one Thunderbolt 4 and an additional USB Type-C 3.2. Additional slots include an Ethernet jack, a full-size SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The devices support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity.

Packed with proximity sensors, 3D noise-canceling cameras, and a spatial array microphone, these laptops integrate features likely executed via AI algorithms within the NPUs of the new processors.

MSI aims to incorporate its proprietary AI software into these devices, featuring noise reduction software and the MSI AI Engine. The AI Engine identifies user activities on the device (such as gaming, working, dating, and streaming video) and adjusts system settings accordingly. Intriguingly, the AI Engine operates without the NPU, analyzing prevalent applications within defined categories to dynamically optimize power consumption profiles, audio-visual settings, and more.

A highlighted feature is the “AI artist” on the laptop, an image generator similar to DALL-E. However, its potential to rival existing cloud offerings remains ambiguous.
