MSI joins the league of innovators unveiling the Prestige 13 AI Evo laptop housing Intel Core Ultra (Meteor Lake) processors, following the Acer Swift Go 14 and Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i Gen 9. Intel’s concerted push behind its processors with an artificial intelligence accelerator reflects in MSI’s new laptop nomenclature bearing the “AI” (artificial intelligence) abbreviation.
The MSI Prestige 13 AI Evo boasts Core Ultra chips, leveraging the Intel Core Ultra H-series processors like the Core Ultra 5 125H or Ultra 7 155H. Embedded with a dedicated neural engine NPU, it accelerates artificial intelligence tasks while easing the load on the integrated graphics processor. The laptop is also equipped with the latest Intel Arc graphics processor.
Weighing a mere 0.95 kg, the MSI Prestige 13 AI Evo is primed to feature a 2880 x 1800 pixel OLED display, although certain markets may offer a 1920 x 1200 pixel LCD variant, as per MSI’s specifications. The array of ports encompasses a microSD card slot, USB 3.2 Gen2, HDMI 2.1, a duo of Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a headphone jack. A 100 W power adapter fuels its operations, paired with a 75 Wh battery.
Bundled with proximity sensors, 3D noise-canceling cameras, and a spatial array microphone, the device integrates some features likely executed via artificial intelligence algorithms on the NPUs housed within the new processors.
MSI plans to embed its proprietary artificial intelligence software into these new devices, featuring noise reduction software and the MSI AI Engine. The AI Engine vows to discern user activities on the device (such as gaming, working, dating, streaming video) and adapt system settings accordingly. Interestingly, the AI Engine software operates sans the NPU, instead analyzing the most prevalent applications within predefined categories. The utility dynamically alters power consumption profiles, audio-visual settings, and more.
A standout feature on the laptop is its “AI artist” – a localized image generator akin to DALL-E. However, its capacity to rival existing cloud offerings remains unclear.
