Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 Gaming Laptop with 16-inch 144Hz display

Lenovo is making its mark in the expanding gaming laptop arena with the Legion Slim 5 16 Gen 8 2023, ready to take on competitors like the Razer Blade 14 2023 and Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2023. It packs an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 laptop GPU into a lightweight 1.9-kilogram laptop.

The Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 from Lenovo introduces a fresh gaming laptop with a 16-inch display, capable of harnessing the power of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU and processors from Intel and AMD, going up to the Core i7-13700H or Ryzen 9 7840HS.

This update ushers in new hardware for the slim and exceptionally portable 16-inch gaming laptop. The latest generation offers the option of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU. Lenovo pairs this with AMD processors, maxing out with the Ryzen 9 7840HS.

To prevent throttling and maintain adequate cooling, Lenovo has incorporated Legion ColdFront 5.0. This system uses hybrid copper heat pipes and fins, phase change thermal paste, reinforced air inlets and outlets, and a turbocharged 12V dual liquid polymer fan setup.

The LA1 AI chip plays a role in dynamically managing heat generation, thanks to the Lenovo AI Engine+, which optimizes performance while minimizing fan noise by distributing wattage between the CPU and GPU. The manufacturer claims a potential power consumption of up to 160 W TDP. Alternatively, there are GPU options with lower performance in an even slimmer 19.7 mm case.

Apart from supporting up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM at 5,600 MHz and a maximum of 1 TB PCIe SSDs (Gen 4), the gaming laptop boasts a 16-inch Lenovo PureSight gaming display that can reach WQXGA resolution (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) and a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz. Additional specifications include a 3 ms response time, 100 percent sRGB coverage, 500 nits brightness, and DisplayHDR 400 certification. For external monitors, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort via USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C are available.

Power is supplied by an up to 80 Wh battery with Super Rapid Charge support. The Storm Gray or Misty Gray metal-clad laptop features a Legion TrueStrike keyboard and Legion Spectrum 4-zone RGB lighting to round out its impressive set of features.
