Lenovo’s latest ultrabook with a carbon fiber housing can now be configured and pre-ordered via the online website. The Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 9 notebook comes with Intel Tiger Lake, Thunderbolt 4, and an optional 14 inch 4K display, but the announced 5G modem is currently missing.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 was officially presented at CES 2021 in January. The ThinkPad Carbon notebook has a completely new design with a 16:10 display, and the device should finally be delivered in April. Lenovo now seems to just miss this date, because the new ThinkPad can already be pre-ordered via the Bhphotovideo.com website, but it will take at least six weeks until delivery.
With Windows 10 Pro, 14-inch FHD+ non-touch display, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 4-Core (11th Gen), and 256GB M.2 SSD variant cost $1,772.30. For this price, the device comes with an Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8 GB LPDDR4x-4,266 RAM that is soldered to the mainboard, a 256 GB PCIe M.2 SSD, and a 14-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 Pixels and brightness of at least 400 nits.
Lenovo estimates a surcharge of about $20 for a touchscreen with FHD+, or around $200 extra for 4K resolution, and the 1,200p panel with privacy filter costs $200 more. The memory upgrades are offered at a fair price: the upgrade from 8 GB to 16 GB RAM is estimated at $50, for 32 GB a total of $100, the SSD upgrade to 512 GB costs only $50, for 1 TB it costs $150 due.
The Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 9 is a 14-inch ultrabook that weighs just 1.13 kilograms thanks to its carbon fiber housing. Lenovo installed a 57 Wh battery and a decent selection of ports, including two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, one HDMI 2.0, and a headphone jack. There is also a 720p webcam with a cover, four microphones, Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1.
