CES 2017: Lenovo Legion Y720 and Y520 Portable Gaming Laptop Announced

On the occasion of the CES 2017, Lenovo has renewed its new portable gaming laptops by presenting the new Legion Y520 and Y720, both sports 15.6″ display with Windows 10 and are based on the latest seventh-generation Intel Core processor and Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti and 1060 GPUs. The design of the both Lenovo gaming laptops are classic that characterizes this kind of product, both have sharp and squared edges, red backlit keyboard with 1.7mm stroke. Lenovo Legion Y520

Going into detail, Lenovo Legion Y520 offers a 15.6-inch IPS LCD display with a FullHD (1080p) resolution and anti-glare coating. Under the hood we find a seventh generation Intel Core processors up to the Core i7, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM via two SODIMM slots, memory 128/ 256 / 512GB SSD and 500 / 1TB / 2TB HDD. The graphics is Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti can guarantee a good gaming performance at FullHD resolution. 4

For audio, there are built-in two Harman Kardon 2W speakers along with Dolby Audio technology. For ports, there are USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, a HDMI port, audio jack and microphone, an Ethernet and a 4 in 1 card reader. Connectivity is provided by a 1×1 WiFi 802.11 ac adapter or a 2×2 802.11 ac combo with Bluetooth 4.1.  3

It complete with a 45 WHr lithium polymer 3-cell battery, which is capable of providing up to 4 hours of battery life. Lenovo Legion Y520 has dimensions of 380 x 265 x 25.8 mm and a weighs 2.4Kg.

The Lenovo Legion Y720, on the other hand, which is proposed as a complete gaming machine thanks to some key differences compared to Y520. The display size is same 15.6 inch IPS panel, however, users have options to choose between a traditional FullHD (1080p) or more defined UHD (2160p) with anti-glare coating. Lenovo Legion Y720

There is also two options in processors such as an Intel Core i5-7300HQ or i7-7700HQ, while the graphics handle by the Nvidia GTX 1060 with 6GB of GDDR5 memory and PCIe interface, also ideal for VR gaming thanks to the Oculus VR certification.

Other specs are similar to the Y520, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and either a 512GB SSD or a 2TB hard drive. We find some differences in the audio technology, the Y720 comes with built-in JBL 2W speakers, accompanied by a Dolby Atmos 3W subwoofer that makes this laptop the first in its category to be compatible with Dolby Atmos.

Lenovo Legion Y720 also includes 3 USB 3.0 A ports, one HDMI, Thunderbolt 3 in Type-C format, a Display Port, audio and microphone jacks and RJ45 Ethernet port. Also a 2×2 802.11 ac combo card with Bluetooth 4.1 and built-in Xbox One wireless controller receiver, which can be connected without having to use the traditional dongle. 1

Finally, Lenovo Legion Y720 has a size of 380 x 277 x 29mm and weighs 3.2Kg which also includes the 4-cell lithium polymer 60 WHr battery which guarantees up to 5 hours of usage time.

The new Legion Y520 and Y720 Lenovo Laptops will be available on the market in the coming weeks. It will start with Y520, which will reach the market in the February at a starting price of $899.99 for the basic configuration, while Legion Y720 will be available from April priced at $1399.99, again for the base configuration.
