Tokina announced the release of its new lens for Sony E-mount cameras – Tokina atx-m 11-18mm F2.8 E. The Tokina 11-18mm F2.8 lens is the first ultra-wide-angle zoom lens in the company’s product line, designed for Sony’s mirrorless cameras.
This zoom has a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire range of focal lengths from 11 to 18mm. The lens covers APS-C format matrices. It is lightweight and compact, suitable for shooting both photos and videos.
The weight of the lens is 335 grams. Its dimensions are 74.4 x 74.1 mm. It can be safely used with electronic stabilizers due to its compact size. It has a fairly complex optical design: 13 elements in 11 groups with a well-balanced arrangement of 2 aspherical and 2 extra-low dispersion (SD) glass elements to suppress chromatic aberration and provide rich color reproduction and low distortion.
The lens has a 9-blade (rounded) aperture to create beautiful bokeh in bright areas of the background. All optical elements, including the front element, are coated with Tokina’s proprietary multi-layer compound that minimizes ghosting and flare to a minimum. The minimum focusing distance is only 19 cm at the wide end.
The Tokina 11-18mm F2.8 E lens is fully compatible with the advanced features of Sony’s E-mount cameras, including hybrid autofocus, image stabilization, direct manual focus, manual focus-assist, eye AF, and various optical corrections. For example, shading, chromatic aberration, and distortion.
The silent ST-M focusing motor, combined with the lens position sensor for fast and accurate operation, allows the novelty to be used equally in both photo and video modes. The lens has a USB (type B) port for future firmware updates.
