DJI Inspire 3 Drone with Zenmuse X9 camera and 8K ProRes RAW support

DJI has announced the best professional drone Inspire 3 with the Zenmuse X9 full-frame camera. The device will occupy the segment between the DJI Mavic 3 Cine drone and more expensive specialized platforms capable of carrying large digital cinema cameras (such as the Sony AirPeak S1)

DJI Inspire 3 received a Zenmuse X9 full-frame camera with a 35.4-megapixel sensor. This camera is very similar to the one included with the DJI Ronin 4D 4-Axis Cinema Camera 8K.

The drone received the DJI CineCore 3.0 imaging system, which supports internal recording at 8K resolution at 25 frames per second in CinemaDNG, as well as 8K at 75 frames per second in ProRes RAW, both meeting the needs of professional drone videography and television productions.

8K 75 fps video requires a full-frame 2.4:1 aspect ratio and Apple ProRes RAW (in S&Q mode). In S&Q mode, the DJI Inspire 3 is also said to support internal 4K 120fps ProRes RAW video recording without cropping.

The Zenmuse X9 supports dual ISO 800/4000 full-frame recording at up to 29.97fps. Dual ISO changes to EI 320/1600 when shooting full frame at frame rates above 29.97. The overall ISO EI range is from 200 to 12800, and the DJI Inspire 3 has a claimed dynamic range of 14+ stops.

The camera supports a bayonet mount for mounting branded DL format lenses. The manufacturer already has a range of lightweight optics with focal lengths of 16, 18, 24, 35, and 50mm.

Shooting with a full frame is possible with all DL lenses, except for the 16mm lens. However, mounting other lens mounts, such as on the Ronin 4D, is not feasible. Additionally, there is no information available about the camera’s compatibility with zoom lenses.

The DJI Zenmuse X9 full-frame camera in the best professional drone Inspire 3 uses a proprietary chip for advanced processing and high-performance computing.

As noted above, the Inspire 3 uses CineCore 3.0 to support internal Cinema DNG, ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ, and H.264 video recording. Please note that an additional license key must be purchased to record to Cinema DNG or ProRes RAW.

The DJI Cinema Color System (DCCS) is said to allow the X9-8K Air to retain natural colors. DCCS is said to enable easy color matching between the new drone’s camera and ground-based film cameras such as the DJI Ronin 4D, providing a consistent color style from air to ground to meet the requirements of film production post-processing workflows.

The included DJI PROSSD 1TB media provides write speeds up to 1100MB/s and read speeds up to 900MB/s and can be connected directly to a computer via a USB-C cable for file sharing. Please note that the DJI PROSSD 1TB drives are not included with the Inspire 3 and are sold separately for $759.

The frame of the Inspire 3 includes an FPV camera, visual sensors, positioning antennas, and a memory card slot. The design of the drone has been improved compared to the previous model. Tilt Boost and 360° Pan added. With the landing gear lowered, the gimbal maintains the survey at an 80° upward angle.

The new TB51 Intelligent Dual Batteries provide a flight time of approximately 28 minutes. The DJI Inspire 3 top speed is up to 94 km/h, an ascent and descent speed of 8 m/s, and a dive of up to 10 m/s.

The RTK positioning technology integrated into the Inspire 3 not only provides professional drone flying but also allows you to plan your flight route. Built-in 3 GNSS system (GPS + Galileo + BeiDou) works with built-in dual-layer ceramic RTK antennas.

In addition, Inspire 3 users can use the new Waypoint Pro feature. It provides flight route planning and shooting with a wide range of individual settings. In addition, this feature allows you to achieve highly accurate positioning – if you activate the RTK network or install a D-RTK 2 mobile station. Inspire 3 also provides interior orientation, eliminating the need for compass calibration in most scenarios.

The Inspire 3 drone is equipped with nine visual sensors that provide an omnidirectional sensor system capable of detecting obstacles in all directions and providing comprehensive flight protection.

In addition, the Inspire 3 has received a new customizable feature that helps provide greater flight safety and creative freedom. These are horizontal, upward, and downward detection of obstacles. These options can be enabled or disabled independently of each other, and the range of the obstacle alert can be set manually for different scenarios.

When Active Obstacle Avoidance is disabled, users can see the distance to an obstacle on the navigation screen in real-time and receive an audible alert when an obstacle is within the set range without performing automatic avoidance.

The DJI Inspire 3 is equipped with a 161° FOV ultra-wide-angle FPV lens, a 1/1.8-inch night vision sensor, and live streaming up to 1080p 60fps.

The new O3 Pro Transmission technology allows data transmission up to 15 km with a single controller and up to 12 km in dual control mode.

The drone also has a 3.5mm port to synchronize the time code between equipment in the air and on the ground, which greatly simplifies and increases the efficiency of the editing process.

The Inspire 3 comes with a DJI RC Plus controller with a 7-inch, high-brightness 1200 nits screen that works even in bright sunlight. The internal battery provides up to 3.3 hours of run time, and with the WB37 hot-swappable external battery, up to 6 hours.

In addition, the drone camera is equipped with an HDMI port and customizable buttons and dials on the front, back, and top panels. The Inspire 3 also supports 4K 30fps live streaming up to 5km away. In addition, the drone is compatible with the DJI Pilot 2 app.

DJI Inspire 3 price and release date

The Inspire 3 DJI professional drone price is quite steep, with a price tag of $16,499, which is primarily aimed at professional users. The best professional drone can be pre-ordered on Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com and is set to be shipped on May 30th, 2023.
