PreSonus Revelator: More Than a USB Microphone?

With Revelator, PreSonus presents a new USB mic that is specifically aimed at podcasters and streamers. The manufacturer advertises with the slogan “More than a USB microphone”. Sure, that is “marketing talk” – or is there something behind it? Let’s take a look at the features.

PreSonus Revelator USB Mic

Podcasts, live streams, vlogging, gaming, or even voice recordings – PreSonus Revelator was developed for precisely these tasks. The microphone does not have an XLR or jack connection but is simply connected via USB-C like many other microphones of this type. The microphone draws power directly from the USB port.

For voice-overs or performances when you’re recording solo, you can use Cardioid Mode to pick up the sound you want and remove the sounds you don’t. When you’re ready for a round table discussion, switch to Omnidirectional Mode to pick up sound all the way around the microphone.

The integrated effects that the manufacturer has adopted from the in-house StudioLive series are interesting. This includes the Fat Channel with EQ, compressor, gate, and limiter as well as voice effects and reverb. This gives the voice more character or assertiveness. In addition to a reverb or the sound of AM radio, there are also unusual gadgets such as “Space Invaders”. Professionally-crafted presets to make your voice stand out at the press of a button or via the Universal Control app.

Loopback Audio brings audio from other sources (for example apps like Zoom or Games) into the mix – with as little stress as possible on macOS or Windows. In principle, you are dealing with a 6-in / 6-out audio interface that works in 96 kHz and 24 bit. Many USB microphones only offer 16 bit, which is sufficient for most applications.

The headphone output enables latency-free monitoring, which, by the way, not every USB mic offers! You can also regulate the volume of the headphone signal. Software is included in the scope of delivery, including Studio One Artist and the Studio Magic bundle. A table stands with integrated cable management is also part of the scope of delivery.
