Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 8 and ThinkPad X1 Yoga 5 With Intel Comet-Lake at CES 2020

As every year at CES, Lenovo updates its X1 ThinkPads. 1 ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2020 and second is ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2020 rely on Intel Comet-Lake, brighter LCD panels, and a slightly revised keyboard.

For the new year 2020 and CES, Lenovo has once again introduced new ThinkPad laptops; More specific: The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 8, which is still the lightest and most compact 14-inch ThinkPad laptop, and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 5, whose convertible laptop with an aluminum housing.

The processors of X1 Carbon Gen 8 and X1 Yoga Gen 5, on the other hand, are new – Intel Whiskey Lake is being replaced by Intel Comet Lake – a comparatively small CPU update, which nevertheless has higher clock speeds and the hexacore option, On the other hand, it is somewhat disappointing that Lenovo continues to offer 16GB LPDDR3-RAM as the maximum for these models – 32GB LPDDR4X should actually be possible with Comet-Lake.

Apart from new processors, there are some brighter display options: For both models, the LCD brightness of the optional Privacy Full HD display increases from 400 to 500 cd/m². With the X1 Carbon G8, Lenovo also increases the brightness of the optional Full HD touchscreen from 300 to 400 cd/m².

The keyboard remains basically the same as the predecessor. However, there are new function keys for the X1 Carbon 8th Gen and X1 Yoga 5th Gen – as a double assignment for F9 to F11, there are now communication functions that are similar to the latest ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II announced at CES 2020.

Lenovo does not specify a specific release date for the two new X1 ThinkPad laptops, instead, they only declare that they will be launched in 2020. After all, you’re specific about the prices: The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 8 will cost $1,499, while the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 5 should cost at least $1,599.
