With the ThinkPad P17 and P15 G2, Lenovo has relaunched two workstation notebooks with very interesting features. Customers get a modern OLED panel that has a UHD resolution, as well as the latest RTX-A5000 graphics chips.
Lenovo reissued two more workstation notebooks, the Lenovo P15, and P17 G2. This time the manufacturer is offering the best that is currently available on the market. The new Lenovo workstation devices are also correspondingly expensive, although this can be significantly higher depending on the configuration.
With the ThinkPad P15 G2, customers can choose between a Full HD panel with a brightness of 300/500 nits, as well as a UHD display with IPS technology with a high brightness of 600 nits or another UHD OLED panel with up to 400 that is bright and supports HDR500 True Black. With the 17-inch Lenovo ThinkPad P17 G2, you can choose between an FHD panel with 300 nits and a UHD IPS panel with 400 nits.
Otherwise, there is hardly any difference between the two Lenovo ThinkPad laptop variants. With both Lenovo workstation models, customers receive 11th generation Intel Core or Xeon processors with up to 8 cores, which are supported by up to 128 GB RAM and up to 6 TB NVME memory in three M.2 slots. For the graphics card, potential buyers get the latest GeForce RTX A5000 chips from Nvidia, which are specifically aimed at workstations and, depending on the model, have up to 16 GB of VRAM. To simplify registration, there is also a fingerprint scanner here.
In terms of connectivity, there are two USB Type-C ports on the sides with Thunderbolt 4 support, a USB Type-C port without Thunderbolt, two USB Type-A inputs, and, depending on the configuration, an HDMI 2.0 / 2.1 Output, an SD card reader, (optional) a SIM card slot and a LAN socket. It means that the device should be well equipped for all applications. The battery has a fairly large capacity of 93 Whr and should ensure adequate runtimes despite the demanding hardware.
In summary, the Lenovo ThinkPad P17 G2 and P15 G2 are two very interesting notebooks that should be well received by users who need a powerful mobile workstation. At least at first glance, the models do not allow themselves any mistakes. How good the displays and battery life are in practice, however, we will only find out with the first practical reviews.
