With the Kano PC: a new DIY convertible laptop is now available to buy in the US, which at least in part can be assembled by the user. The laptop tablet model is based on an Intel processor.
The Kano is a compact system that can be used both as a tablet and as a laptop. The 2-in-1 laptop is reminiscent of the Surface from Microsoft and is equipped with an 11.6-inch touchscreen display. The touchscreen has a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels.
An Intel Celeron N4000 Dual-Core 1.10 GHz computing cores are used as the processor, which can use a 4 gigabyte DDR3L RAM. An eMMC module is installed as internal memory, whereby a memory expansion via microSD card should be possible.
External data carriers and peripheral devices can be connected via USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and the connection to a network can be established via WiFi 802.11 b / g / n in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands as well as Bluetooth 4.2 is supported.
Another screen can be connected via the HDMI connection. Speakers, a microphone, and headphones can be connected via corresponding inputs and outputs. The numerous status LEDs are a special feature.
The 2-in-1 tablet should offer a battery life of at least 10 hours, whereby the battery is particularly easy to access, according to the manufacturer. Windows 10 is used as the operating system. At the same time as the Kano PC was released, several suitable accessories were to come onto the market.
Price and availability
The Kano PC laptop tablet is now available to buy for $299.99 via the Bestbuy.com store. An exact date or information about the price is not yet available for the other market, but a release in Europe should take place soon.
Recently, Acer has also made available the ConceptD 7 Ezel convertible laptop for content creators, designers, and other professionals. Pricing starts from $2,499.99 for the model with i7-10750H SoC, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage option.
