Dell UltraSharp U2724DE and U2724D 27-inch monitors with IPS Black and 120 Hz

Dell’s U2724D and U2724DE models rely on the high-contrast IPS Black technology, boasting WQHD resolution at a groundbreaking 120 Hz—an innovation for this panel type, though not entirely new to gamers.

Dell UltraSharp U2724DE

Last year marked the arrival of monitors featuring IPS Black technology, amalgamating classic IPS advantages like stable viewing angles and robust color fidelity with an impressive 2000:1 contrast ratio. Until then, however, these devices were confined to a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. Dell aims to revolutionize this.

The new Dell U2724D and U2724DE models introduce a refresh rate of 120 Hz into IPS Black monitors, marking a watershed moment. Despite not being tailored explicitly for gaming, these are business monitors that still benefit from the smoothness of 120 Hz, notably enhancing mouse movement across the OS desktop.

Notably, these models don’t implement sync technology to prevent tearing. Nonetheless, the achievement of IPS Black at 120 Hz is likely to pave the way for gaming monitors featuring this technology. Returning to the Dell monitors, part of the UltraSharp series, they feature 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD), a 2000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms response time (gray to gray), 350 cd/m² brightness, and 10-bit color depth.

These displays come factory-calibrated, ensuring 100 percent sRGB, 98 percent DCI-P3, and a Delta-E value of less than 2. Both models offer DisplayPort 1.4 (input and output; daisy chaining), HDMI 2.0, a USB 3.2 hub (Gen 2), a headphone output, and USB-C with DisplayPort alternate mode. Exclusive to the DE version are Thunderbolt 4 (with DP alternate mode and 90-watt PD), RJ-45, and a KVM switch.

Ergonomically, both monitors include tilt, rotation, height adjustment, pivot, blue light filtering, flicker-free backlight, and an ambient light sensor, enabling automatic screen luminance regulation. They also feature picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes.

In terms of connectivity, the RJ-45 socket on the U2724DE achieves speeds up to 2.5 Gbit/s. Power consumption for the models averages 23.9 watts (U2724D) and 24.4 watts (U2724DE).
