Samyang Optics launches the 50mm f1.4 FE II lens for mirrorless 35mm full-frame and APS-C cameras with an E-mount. It is the successor to the first Samyang lens with autofocus and the same characteristics, which was launched in 2016.
After five years of research and communication with customers, Samyang presents the 50mm f1.4 FE II as the second edition, which should meet the highest demands. According to Samyang, it is also the smallest and lightest of all lenses compatible with the Sony FE mount with a 50mm focal length and high speed.
The lens is the smallest (88.9mm length) and lightest (420g weight) of all 50mm standard lenses with a high speed of 1: 1.4 that are compatible with the Sony FE connection. The lens offers a normal angle of view of 45.7˚ for full format and 31.1˚ for APS-C. The high resolution and the correction of optical errors are achieved by the optical design with 11 elements in 8 groups (2 ASP, 3 HR, and 1 ED).
According to Samyang, the autofocus tracks the subject precisely and quickly and works quietly and efficiently even when recording video. Samyang’s linear STM (stepper motor) will satisfy both photographers and videographers with quiet and precise control of the focusing lens groups.
The new version of the lens has a custom switch that allows you to adjust the aperture by turning the focus ring. With the optionally available console, this mode can be set according to your preferences. Further possible functions are also added via firmware updates.
Sony 50mm f1.4 FE II uses an open aperture with a large diameter to achieve a soft background blur. It effectively separates the subject from the background and uses a shallow depth of field for a strong sense of depth. The 9 aperture blades create a soft and natural bokeh with light scattering.
The lens has a minimized breathing effect so that the angle of view hardly changes when focusing. This is especially effective when shooting movies where the subject is moving forward or backward, or when focusing from the front or back. The close-up limit is only 0.40 m so that interesting perspectives are possible for close-up nature shots, but also of technical subjects or food.
The user-friendliness of the Sony 50mm f1.4 FE II lens has also been developed and improved concerning its impermeability to moisture, water, and dust. It also has a rubber focusing ring with a micro-pattern that is easy to use.

The Samyang AF 50mm F1.4 FE II lens costs $799, but it is now available to pre-order on Adorama.com with a $50 discount.
