SLR Magic has unveiled a new cinema lens for Sony E mount. This optics is positioned as a budget option for the Sony FX line of cinema cameras – the SLR Magic 21mm T1.6 lens has manual control and a front diameter of 82mm for installing filters.
At the same time, almost all optics of the SLR Magic line are the same size. The lens has an 11-blade diaphragm, aperture range from T1.6-T16, and is designed for Sony E-mount full-frame cameras.
SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 21mm lens covers full-frame sensors and is suitable for 4K origination, it features a similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier re-balancing when changing lenses on a gimbal.
The lens incorporates an 11-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking, out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of the flare of the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn’t rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes.
SLR Magic 21mm T1.6 price and availability
The new SLR Magic 21mm T1.6 MicroPrime Cine lens for Sony E mount has been priced at $499, but it is now available with a $50 discount on the Bhphotovideo.com website.
Earlier this month, Samyang has announced a new MF 135mm T2.2 VDSLR MK2 full-frame manual cinema lens. This video lens has received weather protection, a new aperture, and design changes to the body compared to the first version of this lens.
The Samyang MF 135mm T2.2 VDSLR MK2 features a seal on the mount to create a waterproof barrier between the lens and the camera and a new 9-blade diaphragm that the manufacturer claims has 18 beams when closed.
