QNAP TS-130: Affordable Home NAS with Media Functions

With the TS-130, QNAP is now offering a particularly affordable NAS. The home network storage can also be used to stream media files.

QNAP TS-130 home network storage

QNAP is well known as a manufacturer of network-attached storage and is expanding its own portfolio with the TS-130, a new best home NAS device for beginners. Despite the low price, the model should offer a variety of options. The 187.5 x 66.1 x 157.6-millimeter system is equipped with an ARM processor, specifically the Realtek RTD1295 with four computing cores up to 1.4 GHz.

The main memory is one gigabyte and cannot be expanded. Four-gigabyte flash memory is available for the operating system. It is possible to install a single hard drive. The TS-130 also supports 3.5-inch drives, which generally offer a better ratio between storage space and price than the more compact 2.5-inch mass storage devices. 2.5-inch hard drives and SSDs can also be installed.

A single Gigabit Ethernet port is available. External storage media can be connected via the USB 3.2 Gen 1 connection, plus a USB 2.0 port. Despite the low price, users should benefit from numerous features that go beyond pure data storage. This includes snapshot data backup and extensive backup plans.

The TS-130 should be able to achieve read rates of up to 113 Mbyte/s reading and 112 Mbyte/s writing. A wide variety of multimedia applications are also supported, so the NAS can serve as DLNA media storage. Compatibility with Roku, Google Chromecast, Fire TV, and Apple TV via Qmedia is given. Thanks to QuMagie, photos can be managed easily and conveniently. If desired, users can also access the NAS while on the move via myQNAPcloud.

Price and availability

The QNAP TS-130 is available to buy on the Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, and Adorama.com websites for $129 only.

Alongside the affordable home network storage, QNAP has also made available the TS-x73A series network storage devices based on AMD processors, up to 64 gigabytes of RAM, two 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet, PCIe 3.0, and is priced at $779.
