This compact lens consists of 9 elements, including one Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) element for chromatic aberration suppression and one Ultra High Refractive Index (UHR) element. According to Panasonic, the three aspherical elements help the lens achieve high resolution at F1.8.

The lens has a 47 ° field of view, a minimum focusing distance of 45 cm, a maximum magnification of 0.14x, a nine-blade aperture, and its focal group is driven by a linear motor.

Lumix S 50mm F1.8 has the dimensions (Ø74 x 82mm), the center of gravity, and control layout same as the upcoming Lumix S 24mm F1.8 and 35mm F1.8 (in development), making it easy to change lenses while the camera is on the gimbal, with minimal adjustment of the attached gears. The filter thread diameter is 67 mm.

The lens body is made of magnesium alloy, is weatherproof, and rated to work in temperatures down to -10 ° C, and it weighs 300g.
