The Nothing Phone (2) company has just officially launched the Nothing Phone (2a) and positioned it as a cheaper alternative. The focus of the new mid-range smartphone is on the price-performance ratio, for which the manufacturer has installed a 1,080p+ AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.7 inches, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and an HDR peak brightness of 1,300 nits.

They specially optimized the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro for the Nothing Phone (2a) and claim that it achieves better performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. The top model of the phone comes with 12 GB of RAM. You can charge the 5,000 mAh battery via USB-C with up to 45 watts.

On the back, there is a camera module with a brand new look, which has a new 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and the same 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera as the Nothing Phone (2). They directly took the 32 MP selfie camera from the more expensive phone (2).

The back houses three LED strips marketed as the “Glyph Interface.” These LEDs can indicate incoming notifications or calls, although users can set different LED animations for different contacts and apps. The smartphone ships with Nothing OS 2.5 based on Android 14. It completely overhauls the user interface and adds more than 30 additional widgets.

Price and release date

Nothing Phone (2a) starts with 8GB RAM+128GB ROM for £319, the model with 12GB or 256GB of memory costs £349. You can pre-order the phone on Amazon.co.uk, and it will be released on March 12, 2024.

Nothing promises three major Android updates and four years of security patches. The Nothing Phone (2a) has a fingerprint sensor and supports 2D facial recognition. The housing has IP54 certification, protecting it against water splashes but not making it completely waterproof.
