Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1 Instant Camera Announced

Fujifilm has introduced the new Instax Square SQ1 instant camera. The Fuji Instant Camera has received a square form factor, typical as its INSTAX series cameras. Let us remind you that the new product from Fujifilm uses proprietary Instax Square cartridges.

The new Fuji Instax camera is very similar to previous models such as the Instax Mini 9/10/11, including on shooting opportunities because it lacks some of the advanced features that were present in earlier Instax square cameras, such as SQ6 or SQ10.

However, this Fuji instant camera can still be an interesting additional accessory for all photography enthusiasts, due to its ease of use and quality printing, according to the manufacturer.

The manufacturer has emphasized that the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1 is powered by two CR2 batteries, which you install in the back of the camera near the cartridge door. There is an automatic film counter on the back of the camera showing how many frames are left in your cartridge pack, and there is also an electronic viewfinder.

If you are taking a selfie or want to take a macro shot, then you will need to rotate the lens again to set it to selfie mode (shooting in this mode is possible at a distance of 0.3 to 0.5 m). And for framing when shooting selfies, you can navigate by the front mirror.

The new Instax Square SQ1 camera is bulky compared to its counterparts (Fujifilm Instax Mini, for example), but that’s to be expected since it captures 62 x 62mm images. According to the manufacturer, the plastic housing of the camera is quite sturdy, and the ribbed grip on the right side makes it comfortable to hold.

As the first customers noticed, the new Instax Square SQ1 has a not immediately noticeable drawback – it is that the shutter button is on the handle, and you can accidentally press it before you decide to take a picture. The second drawback is that Instax Square cartridges are not that cheap, and the standard cartridge only lasts 10 frames. Another downside is the Instax Square SQ1’s lack of some of the advanced features you’ll find in the SQ6, such as double exposure, landscape mode, dim modes, and delayed self-timer.

As with most instant cameras, the Instax Square SQ1 requires a lot of light to get the best picture quality possible. A clear sunny day is ideal for shooting with this camera. But, for shooting in the evening and twilight, a sufficiently powerful flash is needed. At the same time, in a dark room with mixed light, such as a club, problems with automatic exposure may occur. At the same time, the camera lens is very sharp.

Price and availability

The new Fujifilm Instax SQ1 is already available to pre-order on the Amazon.com at a price of $119.95, and shipping will start from October 18, 2020.

Just recently, the Canon has also introduced the two new Insta camera models named IVY CLIQ 2 and IVY CLIQ+ 2. Their main feature is that they have the function of the instant photo printer.
