Bullitt Mobile, which produces smartphones under the brands called Cat and Kodak, now introduced the flagship rugged smartphone called Cat S61, which is a direct successor to the last year’s Cat S60.
The Cat S61 has become the world’s first smartphone with a thermal imager. It has an enhanced FLIR thermal imaging capability with enhanced software for greater image contrast, expanded temperature range from -20 to +400 degrees Celsius, and an upgrade from VGA (0.3MP) to High-Definition (1MP) detail from the visible camera providing unmatched image optimization using FLIR’s MSX technology.
In addition, Bullitt also added two more rare sensors to the Cat S61 – Laser assisted distance measurement which can measure point-to-point distances up to 10m, then calculate area, and switch between Metric and Imperial measurement. The indoor air quality sensor from Sensirion can alert users to high levels of indoor air pollutants (Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs), allowing them to make timely decisions such as opening a window to improve ventilation or taking a break. It can also provide humidity and current temperature readings.
The S61 is also certified with MIL Spec 810G and has been passed to survive repeated drop-tests onto concrete from 1.8m as well as an IP68 rating for dustproof and waterproof up to 3m for 1 hour.
Moving to Cat S61 Specifications, it features a 5.2-inch Super Bright outdoor display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, auto wet finger and glove support, and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The handset is powered by a 2.2 GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 630 processor with Adreno 508 GPU and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of native expandable storage.
On the camera front, S61 bears a 16MP rear camera with dual LED flash, PDAF and 8MP front-facing camera for selfie. The device also features a fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm audio jack, and FM Radio options. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo and also upgradable to Android P in the near future.
Cat S61 packs a 4500mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 and for connectivity includes 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C. It measures 148.35 x 73.4 x 7.99 mm and weighs 163 grams. The Cat S61 price will be around $1110 and it will be introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2018.
