Beyerdynamic is finally entering the true best wireless Bluetooth headphones market. The Free Byrd is a strong debut, with the earbuds offering active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, and eleven hours of battery life.
The Beyerdynamic Free Byrd may be the manufacturer’s first true wireless Bluetooth earbuds, but the range of functions can still compete with established competitors. It starts with the housing of the earphones, which is IPX4-certified and can therefore effortlessly absorb sweat and rain.
Active noise cancellation (ANC) and a transparency mode are now standard, but aptX Adaptive is still a special feature – Qualcomm’s Bluetooth codec can be used to transmit music compressed with 24-bit at 96 kHz, as long as your smartphone can support it. The ANC reduces annoying noise by up to 20 dB. The best wireless Bluetooth headphones offer voice control via Amazon Alexa and Siri, and the sound can be adjusted to your preferences with the Beyerdynamic MIY app.
The battery life of 11 hours on a charge playing music and 8.5 hours on calls is top-notch, and the charging case stores enough energy to fully charge the earbuds about twice. The case itself can be charged either via USB-C or wirelessly on a Qi charging pad. A full charge takes almost four hours.
