Audeze, specializing in magneto-planar headphones, has introduced an innovative new product called Audeze CRBN. The American company has created open back headphones that combine advanced electrostatic converters and new patented technology using carbon nanotubes.
Initially, the main goal of the new development of Audeze was to create comfort for patients undergoing examination on an MRI machine. Modern noise canceling headphones cannot be used in MRI due to the presence of ferrous metals in their construction. In addition, MRI machines are very sensitive to electrical noise, which can degrade scan quality.
Addressing these challenges, Audeze developed and patented an innovative driver using an ultra-thin film embedded with carbon nanotubes. The driver has uniform conductivity and is completely neutral for MRI. On its basis, special medical SMRTIMAGE headphones were created, receiving a signal via a fiber-optic cable.
A “side” effect of the new driver is high-quality audio playback. As a result, Audeze released CRBN over ear headphones for audiophiles with electrostatic speakers measuring 120×90 mm and patented carbon nanotube diaphragms. The novelty turned out to be very light, neutral sounding, with accurate bass, a high level of detail, and immersion – as if there was absolutely nothing between the user and the music.
An interesting feature of the CRBNs is that they are fully compatible with all 580-volt STAX amplifiers and have exactly the same 5-pin connector as traditional electrostatic headphones. CRBN has oval acetate housings with leather memory foam ear cushions and a carbon fiber headband. The headphones come with a specially designed premium electrostatic cable and carrying case.
Audeze CRBN price and availability
Audeze CRBN will go on sale in September 2021. The retail price of the open back headphones is $4,500 and is already available to pre-order at the Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com online stores.
Recently, Audeze has introduced the Euclid which is the company’s first in-ears Audiophile headphones that work with planar drivers in a similar way to the large over-head headphones. The high-end Audeze headphones are primarily operated via cables, but an optional Bluetooth module also enables wireless music enjoyment, but the price is quite high around $1,300.
