New Motion Eye camera technology, 4K display with HDR support, a reflective mirror-like a 2.5D curved glass finish which also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, an interesting High-Res audio feature, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors, 4GB RAM – all this about the Sony Xperia XZ Premium.
Sony does not have any special modifications or any major changes in the design. What we have seen in the Xperia XZ, we see in the Xperia XZ Premium, but the fact is that only the size of the device has increased. However, XZ Premium comes with its own distinct identity, as it also flaunts a rear mirror finish glass surface that is quite reflective. Also on the front is the 2.5D curved glass panel with Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Similar to the most of Sony device, this one also comes with standard IP65 / 68 ratings for underwater shooting and USB-C port. The device also has an oleophobic coating on all sides and promises that scars or marks will not be as noticeable. The rear panel of the device, a camera with steel ring protection, next is flash and sensors (laser autofocus, IR-RGB sensor) middle with NFC and XPERIA logo.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium also has a fingerprint sensor embedded on the power button on the right side, and below we find the volume rockers. Front top of the smartphone with the 3.5mm audio jack, while the USB Type-C port can be found at the bottom. The right side of the device carries a dedicated camera button, while the left side with the SIM card and microSD card slot.
Overall, the XZ Premium has a smooth design from all sides, it can easily fit in your hand, provides a firm grip and rear glass surface can be used as a mirror.
This is one of the key highlighting part of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium as it gets a 5.5-inch high dynamic range (HDR) -ready display with 4K (2160 X 3840 pixels) screen resolution. The display technology used in the device is claimed to be the same one as used on the company’s BRAVIA televisions.
If you want to know the real potential of the display, then you have to watch the 4K UHD video to know its real capabilities. The images and videos look crisp with a vibrant color gamut. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a vivid color display that offers good legibility even in bright sunlight, and we had no complaints on this front in our time spent with the smartphone. The device has on-screen navigation buttons.
Of course, the most interesting part is the new camera technology installed in the Sony Xperia XZ Premium as well as in Xperia XZs. The company called Motion Eye camera technology will be capable of a lot, able to record 4K UHD videos and slow-motion shooting at 960fps, which is far ahead of the competition, many of which max out at 240fps.
The Xperia XZ Premium features a 19-megapixel rear autofocus camera which is capable of recording slow-motion video at 960 frames per second. Whereas, the front features a 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Sony has equipped a 1/2.3″ sensor size with 6P lens and three-stage CMOS image sensor to make its 960fps slow-motion recording possible.
The built-in camera app with two options in a dedicated toggle for slow-motion recording. Either the entire video can be recorded in slow-motion, or a normal-paced video can be shot intermittently with the slow-motion mode as per your preference. We also find standard camera features including a manual mode, Superior Auto mode, Panorama, and 4K video mode.
The Motion Eye camera technology allows you to perform various experiments with the images, for example, if you see something interesting, pulled out your XZ Premium, hover, and it takes three shots, specifying moving objects in a frame. When you press the button, it will be the fourth frame. Then you will be prompted to select the best shot and delete the rest.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor which is quite responsive without any issues while multitasking. It packs 4GB of RAM with 64GB of native storage, which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. The handset running Android 7.1.1 Nougat and packs in a 3230mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
We suppose that the Sony Xperia XZ Premium price is $799.99 and it can be pre-ordered through Amazon store and will be released on June 19th, 2017. Interestingly, this smartphone technology is woven into a variety of large companies – a new Motion Eye Camera technology, an improved stabilization system, and 4K display with HDR. There is also possible to establish a connection with the PlayStation and play your favorite games anywhere in your home without disturbing anyone.
Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with so many positive things as well as a positive response from other tech enthusiasts. In our opinion, the price for such functions is quite adequate.
