Samyang MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 and MF 85mm F1.4 MK2 Lenses: Price, Availability

Samyang has introduced several new lenses, including new versions MK2 of two proven manual focus lenses for 35mm full-frame DSLRs. These are the Samyang MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 Wide Angle Lens and Samyang MF 85mm F1.4 MK2 Portrait Lens, both of which replace their respective predecessors.

Although the two new Samyang lenses were designed for full-frame DSLRs and are offered with the Canon EF and Nikon F mounts, the lenses are also available with mounts for mirrorless cameras with image sensors in full format, APS-C and MFT format. In total, both lenses are available with the following six different mounts: Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon M, and MFT.

Samyang MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 is an ultra wide angle lens with manual focus and excellent sharpness, even with the maximum aperture according to the manufacturer. With its large 115.7˚ image angle is suitable for taking pictures of landscapes, interiors, etc. The permanently integrated lens hood effectively blocks unwanted light. The MF 14mm F2.8 incorporates focus lock and de-click function along with weather sealing and micro-patterned rubber ring.

Two completely new features of the new MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 are “Focus Lock” and “Declick”, so now you can ‘Lock’ the focus which improves reliability in astrophotography and time-lapse. And the ‘de-click’ function allows aperture for fine and smooth adjustment without clicking. Switch the silver ring from “Click” to “Free”, then your aperture is now not stopped at every aperture as cine lenses.

In terms of the bokeh performance, it is the 9 rounded aperture blades that give beautiful bokeh results. Thanks to the 9-rounded diaphragm, the wide angle also provides clearly defined sun stars when the diaphragm is closed. With the minimum focusing distance of 0.28 m (0.92 ft) and its viewing angle of 115.7˚, users can create compositions that emphasize the perspective and are unique for wide-angle lenses.

The lens has a total of 14 elements in 10 groups. 3 High Refractive Lenses, 1 Hybrid Aspherical Lens, 1 Aspherical Lens, and 2 Extra-low Distortion lenses. The special lenses adjust the path of light for a clear and vibrant image and also correct the chromatic aberration.

Weather seals are located at the lens mount area to prevent infiltration of moisture and/or raindrops. It provides an additional layer of protection when shooting outdoors under adverse weather conditions.

The construction of the MF 85mm F1.4 MK2 lens is still appreciated and loved by photographers for its beautiful bokeh. The new Portrait lens is also ideal for high-quality portraits and still images with its lively colors and soft focus suppression.

The lens Inheriting the original optical design, ‘De-click function’, and weather sealing function are added to encourage the ease-of-use when capturing moments of your life. This “Declick” will help you adjust the brightness continuously and smoothly with much more details between the F stops.

In terms of the “bokeh” performance, its 9-rounded aperture blades which will help you achieve excellent “bokeh” results. The space between the subject and background will be effectively separated and make the subject more eye-catching.
