Razer Phone is First Smartphone To Support Netflix With HDR and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1

Razer announced that its Razer Phone is the first smartphone to have obtained support from Netflix for both HDR and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 at CES 2018. Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 support is new to Netflix in the smartphone field. Generally, it is present in systems and PC designed specifically for multimedia entertainment.

Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 uses five full-band channels and a low-frequency effect channel and is the standard surround sound component of digital music and broadcast. To enjoy HDR content, Netflix users must be subscribed to the premium plan.

Commenting on the announcement: Min-Liang Tan, co-founder, and CEO of Razer:

“We designed the Razer Phone to ensure HDR and audio-video handling like no other smartphone on the market,” “We are thrilled to offer Netflix entertainment on smartphones like never before, taking full advantage of the enabled display for HDR10, dual front speakers optimized for Dolby playback and THX-certified headset connectivity.

The owners of Razer Phone could benefit from these innovations thanks to a firmware update that will be released during this month which will include the Netflix app and the widget on the home screen. With the update will also come some audio/video enhancements.

The Razer Phone is available online from Amazon.com for $699.99.
