With the PodTrak P8, Zoom introduces the ultimate all-in-one podcast studio for all podcasters, according to the manufacturer. The podcast recorder has a lot of features on board for podcasts or live streams. Thanks to battery operation, nothing stands in the way of mobile use.
The colored touchscreen, which allows app-like operation and facilitates the internal trimming, cutting, or threading of audio files, is striking. The display on the P8’s touchscreen can be set to one of six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Japanese.
There are 6 microphone inputs with newly developed microphone preamplifiers which, with up to 70dB amplification, should deliver a low-noise sound even with sophisticated microphones. The final touches for the voice are tone control, compressor, limiter, and a deesser. Six headphone outputs with individual volume control also allow larger discussion groups and if a guest is physically unable to be there, they can be switched to simply using a connected smartphone or a computer connected via USB.
Calls fed in via USB or smartphone are subjected to automatic feedback suppression thanks to the integrated Mix-Minus function. Calls via computer or smartphone can each be recorded on separate tracks. Smartphones are integrated via a TRRS cable or wirelessly with the new, optionally available BTA-2 Bluetooth adapter. Jingles, sound effects or music can be imported using 9 color-lit sound pads, which can also be recorded in 2 of the 13 available tracks on the SD card.
With the separately available Zoom BTA-2 Bluetooth receiver, the phone can be wirelessly integrated to accommodate external guests.
The Zoom PodTrak P8 podcast recorder can also be used as an audio interface with 13 inputs and one output, so that you can alternatively record with a PC, MAC, and iPad or stream your podcast directly. Simultaneous recording on the internal SD card and computer is also possible.
