The Xiaomi folding smartphone has already passed to the headlines following the video published of the prototype released by the well-known leaker Evan Blass (Evleaks), but the new video that portrays the device was shared by Lin Bin himself, President of the Chinese company, a circumstance that contributes to giving the whole thing greater credibility.
It is also a prototype with a flexible folding display that can be folded into three parts: the large screen folds on two sides to turn into a compact device. The device has dimensions not too different from those of a small tablet. The Xiaomi folding smartphone appears to flaunt a glossy finish on the rear panel and looks impressively compact and thin even when it is folded.
Xiaomi co-founder and President Lin Bin said that the phone has been developed after several technical problems inflexible folding screen technology, four-wheel drive folding shaft technology, flexible cover technology, and adapting MIUI to the foldable display. The company says that this will be the world’s first folding smartphone with dual-side foldable technology.
The video also shows that the screen on the back doesn’t turn off even after folded, however, the company says that it is still in prototype stage, so this should be fixed in the final version. “This symmetrical dual-folded form perfectly combines the experience of the tablet and mobile phone, which is both practical and beautiful,” said Xiaomi president.
For the moment, the company is interested in collecting feedback from users, which will affect the choice to market the device, and is looking for a name to give it: the candidates are currently two, Xiaomi Dual Flex or Xiaomi MIX Flex.
