Hasselblad has introduced the XCD 28mm f4.0 P, a wide angle street photography lens with a focal length equivalent to 22mm in medium format, and tailored to work seamlessly with the company’s X cameras. Notably, this lens can support the exceptional resolution demands of up to 100MP.
The Swedish photography firm has organized its XCD lens lineup into two distinct categories: V and P. Falling within the P series, this lens epitomizes Hasselblad’s endeavor to create lightweight, “entry-level” optics that cater to daily photography requirements. In contrast, the V series generally encompasses the larger studio-oriented lenses.
As an embodiment of the P series, the XCD 28mm f4 P lens marks a significant milestone as the most compact and lightweight lens ever developed by Hasselblad for its medium-format mirrorless camera range. Designed with street photographers in mind, this lens excels due to its focal length and aperture configuration, making it versatile across a spectrum of scenarios, from natural landscapes to bustling cityscapes and modern urban architecture.
The new Hasselblad wide angle street photography lens uses a nine-element optical structure arranged in eight groups, including two aspherical elements and one ED element, which the company says delivers high image quality while effectively suppressing chromatic dispersion.
With a minimum focus distance of 22 centimeters and a magnification ratio of 1:6, capturing intricate details, such as delicate flowers and appetizing food, is made effortless. Like its XCD counterparts, the 28mm F4 P lens includes a leaf shutter, enabling flash synchronization even at a rapid 1/4000s shutter speed.
For its autofocus mechanism, the XCD 28mm f4 P employs a linear stepping motor, dedicated to propelling a smaller grouping of focusing lenses. This technology synergizes with the phase detection autofocus system found in the X2D 100C model. Hasselblad asserts that this combination ensures agile, precise, and responsive autofocus performance.
