Sony presents another G Master full frame prime lens, the FE 50mm f1.2 GM (model name SEL-50F12GM). The compact, lightweight lens offers high resolution and expressive bokeh, combined with efficient autofocus functions and professional control options. The maximum aperture of F1.2 combines a shallow depth of field with an abundance of creative possibilities for expression and high light intensity, which enables shorter shutter speeds and lower ISO values in poor lighting conditions. This prime lens is particularly suitable for portraits, wedding photography, videos, and much more.
High resolution and nice bokeh
The FE 50mm F1.2 GM has a modern optical design with three XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements which contribute to a consistently high resolution over the entire image area, which is retained even at the maximum aperture of F1.2. At the same time, the new lens with the Sony Nano AR coating II manages high contrasts in backlighting and efficiently minimizes internal reflections so that no unwanted light reflections and ghost effects occur.
With its maximum aperture of F1.2, the lens creates a balanced G Master bokeh in the foreground and background, which gives the images a sense of depth and dimensionality. The bokeh effect is supported by the newly developed, ring-shaped aperture mechanism with 11 blades and the optical structure with minimal spherical aberration.
Efficient autofocus and subject tracking
With its four XD (eXtreme Dynamic) linear motors, the lens sharpens subjects with a fast, precise, and quiet autofocus, even with an extremely shallow depth of field. For precise focusing, especially with 4K, or 8K videos, the FE 50mm F1.2 GM is equipped with a floating focus system, which is controlled by a special drive algorithm and a constantly high resolution over the entire focus range with a minimum focus distance of 0.40 meters.
The new fixed focal length was developed especially for the demands of professional users. The controls and functions, such as manual focus (MF) with linear response, an aperture ring with on / off click switch, a focus adjustment switch, and two adjustable focus hold buttons, allow easy operation with professional customization options. Besides, the lens is sealed against dust and moisture and has a fluorine coating on the front element, which protects against fingerprints, dust, water, oil, and other contaminants. The lens has a diameter of 87 millimeters, is 108 millimeters long, and weighs about 780 grams.
