The QNAP NAS System has recently introduced the TS-hx86 series of network attached storage (NAS) for the business segment. The Enterprise NAS series includes the TS-h686 and TS-h886 network attached devices with six and eight drive bays respectively.
The NAS TS-hx86 series is based on Intel Xeon D processors. More precisely, the QNAP TS-h686 uses a dual-core Intel Xeon D-1602 processor, clocked at 2.5-3.2 GHz, and capable of executing four command streams. DDR4 ECC memory is 8GB. The QNAP TS-h886 uses an Intel Xeon D-1622 quad-core processor, clocked at 2.6-3.2 GHz, and capable of executing eight instruction streams. The DDR4 ECC memory is 16GB. The amount of RAM can be increased by up to 128 GB for both enterprise NAS storage models.
The advantages of storage can be attributed to the presence of two M.2 slots with PCIe Gen3 x4 interface for caching SSDs and four 2.5 GbE ports. By the way, two drive bays are also designed for SSD, but they are 2.5 inches in size. The presence of two PCIe slots allows the installation of expansion cards, for example, video cards for accelerating video transcoding or cards with additional M.2 SSDs or 10 GbE ports. The devices are operated by the QuTS OS.
