Profoto Pro-D3 750 and 1250 All-In-One Monolights Unveiled

Profoto has introduced the Pro-D3 all-in-one light, a professional-grade light that, like all the brand’s products, offers reliability and performance for even the most demanding and professional photographers. Profoto Pro-D3 750 and 1250 W feature “high-quality components” throughout the design and long-lasting capacitors. They have an 11-stop flash power adjustment range in 0.1-stop increments.

Innovative Operating Modes

Pro-D3 has three different modes. The first, “Eco”, is suitable for everyday use, with flash parameters optimized to ensure color uniformity and maximum equipment life. The “Boost” mode adds additional power, while the “Freeze” mode provides the “freezing” effect – the shortest possible flashes for shooting high-speed events.

Superior Flash Duration and Color Temperature

Flash duration varies depending on the model. Looking at the Pro-D3 750, when using the Freeze mode, the minimum flash duration is 1/7000 s and 1/75,000 s at power levels t0.1 and t0.5 respectively. It’s very fast.

It is worth noting that the color temperature is 6100 K ± 100 K, in Eco and Boost modes at all power levels. However, to achieve the minimum flash duration in Freeze mode, which requires a significant power reduction, the color temperature can reach 9000 K.

Design and Physical Attributes

Externally, versions 750 and 1250 do not differ, either in design or in dimensions (both 34.5 x 20 x 13 cm). But the first is lighter – 3.6 kg, the second – 4.1 kg.

The Pro-D3 1250 all-in-one lamp has the same color temperature specifications as the 750 version, but a slightly different flash speed. In Freeze mode, the D3 1250 can produce a flash duration of 1/62,000 sec, so photographers who want to take advantage of the fastest shutter speeds on a camera like the Sony α9 III may want to stick with the 750 version.

Distinguishing Between the 750 and 1250 Models

There are differences in other technical characteristics. The Pro-D3 750 reboots at 0.01 to 0.5 seconds at 230V and 0.01 to 0.8 seconds at 100V. The Pro-D3 1250 reboots slower at 0.01 to 0.8 seconds at 230 V and 0.01 to 1.5 seconds at 100 V. However, in any case, and with any power source, the Profoto Pro-D3 is very fast.

Continuous Lighting and Connectivity

Both all-in-one lights are also equipped with an LED continuous pilot light, its maximum power is 56 W, which is adjustable from 1 to 100%. The modeling light’s CRI exceeds 92, with a consistent daylight color temperature of 5600K ± 100K. Profoto notes that the LED modeling light is brighter than a 400W halogen lamp while consuming only 15% power.

The Pro-D3 features built-in Profoto AirX wireless connectivity that transmits data at frequencies greater than 2.4 GHz. With Profoto Air, photographers can use sync, TTL, HSS, and remote control features. The light is also Bluetooth-enabled and works in conjunction with the Profoto Camera and Profoto Control apps for mobile devices. The 2.4 GHz wireless range reaches up to 100 meters in standard conditions and 300 meters in optimal conditions. The Bluetooth range is up to 30 m.

Profoto Pro-D3 is AC powered (100-240V, 50/60Hz) and requires a 10A fuse. It is a powerful, high-end all-in-one camera designed for demanding studio photographers. However, if you need a more mobile solution, you should focus on models like the Profoto B10 or B10X.

Profoto Pro-D3 price and release date

The Profoto Pro-D3 750 version is available for purchase at $2,995 on Bhphotovideo and Adorama. Similarly, retailers price the Profoto Pro-D3 1250 at $3,995, and customers can also order it from them.
