Onyx Boox Nova Air E-Ink Tablet with Pen and App Download Support

With the Nova Air E Ink tablet, Onyx is now offering a new, 7.8-inch e-reader. This supports pen input and new apps can be installed on the Android-based device.

The Nova Air from Onyx is one of the larger ereaders with a screen diagonal of 7.8 inches and is equipped with an E-Ink Carta display. This has a resolution of 1,872 x 1,404 pixels and is monochrome. As usual, the refresh rate of the device is adapted to the application – accordingly, moving image content cannot be displayed meaningfully.

Front lighting is installed, the light color of which can be adjusted to warm and cold. The stylus should support the input with 4,096 pressure intensities and can also and especially be used to take notes. According to the manufacturer, advanced handwriting recognition is available, whereby the prepared content can be synchronized in different ways.

The system, equipped with an eight-core processor, can fall back on a three-gigabyte LPDDR4X memory and comes with a 32-gigabyte eMMC memory. The built-in WiFi module supports both the 5 and the 2.4 GHz band. Bluetooth 5.0 is supported. Two speakers for playing sound files are built-in. New content can also be brought to the device via USB Type C.

At the software level, the ebooks reader is based on Android version 10. The subsequent installation of apps is possible; this makes specific sense for alternative reader apps, for example. According to the manufacturer, the 235-gram device is 6.3 millimeters thin and has no physical buttons. Two buttons for turning the page are contained in an optionally available magnetic housing.
