Onkyo TX-SR383 is Entry Level 7.2-channel AV Receiver Amplifier Announced

Onkyo has announced the new TX-SR383 home theater AV receiver amplifier, a model that is positioned in the entry-level segment and therefore constitutes the entry threshold in the range that we will see this year.

The first and most significant difference between the Onkyo TX-SR383 and last year’s SR373 model is the 7-channel analog amplification system. It provides a choice of native 7.2-channel soundtrack reproduction, or a 5.2-channel surround-sound layout. It is backed by 155W/ch (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10% THD, 1 channel driven).

Onkyo declares a total harmonic distortion of 0.06% (20 Hz-20 kHz, 8 Ohms, 1 channel driven, 50 W), a signal-to-noise ratio of 98dB and the possibility of managing speakers with an impedance of 6 and 16 Ohms. The supported encodings do not change: you can play the tracks in Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and in all the other main formats. So Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are missing, but in this price range it’s not a surprise.

The digital-analog converter (DAC) supports a quality up to 192kHz / 24-bit. Music files can be played via the front USB port. Direct mode is also available for stereo listening. Multimedia features are very basic. The only concession is the presence of Bluetooth with aptX. Onkyo TX-SR383 allows to pass video signals in Ultra HD resolution with HDR (HDR10 and HLG) and supports HDCP 2.2 and extended color spaces (BT.2020). The AccuEQ environmental acoustic calibration system completes the equipment.

Available connections include a USB port and a headphone output (in addition to the AccuEQ microphone input), four inputs and an HDMI 2.0b output with HDCP 2.2, two inputs and a composite output, three analog stereo inputs on RCA, an optical and a coaxial digital input, connectors for subwoofers and speakers.

Onkyo TX-SR383 AV receiver amplifier price has been set at around $399.99 / $CAD 499.99 and will be available later this month.
