Walrus Audio MAKO M1 and MAKO D1 V2 High-Fidelity Pedals announced

The pedal manufacturer Walrus Audio is making a brilliant start in 2022 with two new Hi Fidelity products: MAKO M1 and MAKO D1 V2. The MAKO M1 is (in the words of the company) a high-fidelity modulation machine, and MAKO D1 V2 is Hi Fidelity stereo delay is an updated and revised version of the original released in 2020.

The M1 is a full-featured expression pedal with six dedicated, studio-quality algorithms: Chorus, Phaser, Tremolo, Vibe, Rotary, and Filter. Each program has a wealth of options to fine-tune, tweak, customize and save to one of 9 onboard presets.

The device should be a great pleasure for sound tinkerers. It has a dedicated lo-fi knob that lets you control different lo-fi parameters depending on the algorithm. From subtle movements and textures to massive statements with a thick, swirling chorus to a choppy panning tremolo, everything seems possible.

All six algorithms each have three subdivisions. In the chorus department, on the one hand, there is a traditional chorus that is ideal for tight, soft chorus tones. Type II adds a second chorus with an offset rate and depth, resulting in a dramatic character (two chorus pedals in series).

Type III finds its roots in the classic tri-chorus effect, which runs three chorus units in parallel for a lush, multi-dimensional chorus. Anyone already familiar with the MAKO series knows that the X controller takes on various additional functions depending on the algorithm.

You will find classic 1970s phaser sounds that we all know and love. Of course with additional functions. Similar to the Lillian, Type I is a 2-stage phaser that creates a single “notch” to the classic mild phaser.

Type II is a 4-step model with 2 notches for a stronger effect. Type III is a phaser modeled after the unique sound and LFO shape of a Uni-Vibe. The X knob adjusts the feedback for a more dramatic effect.

The Walrus Audio MAKO M1 Hi Fidelity Modulation Machine costs $323.57 on the Amazon.com website.

Walrus Audio MAKO D1 V2

The Walrus Audio MAKO D1 V2 Hi Fidelity Stereo Delay is an updated and remastered version of the original released in 2020. Not much has changed: There are still five delay modes: digital, mod, vintage, dual and reverse, plus stereo in and out, 128 presets via MIDI, and 9 onboard presets. It’s all really wonderful, isn’t it?

So what’s new? The innovations of the second version come into force with the improved reverse effect, which now achieves a stronger effect. Likewise, the Vintage program has been reworked to emulate a tape delay with some grind.

Stereo width has also been improved, now allowing for two types of widening, panning and the Haas stereo effect. Last but not least, the kicker was also given a USB port, like the devices in the series that were released later. Firmware updates can be carried out via walrusaudio.io in the future.

The Walrus Audio MAKO D1 V2 costs $349, and it is also available to buy at the Amazon.com website.
