One of the most notable improvements in the Fujifilm camera is the inclusion of a 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS sensor from the X-H2, which Fujifilm borrowed from their X-Series mirrorless cameras. The camera also includes an X-Processor 5, which enables creating 10-bit 6.2K 30p, 4K 60p, or FHD 240p videos.

This combination of sensor and processor results in impressive autofocus and improved subject detection and tracking performance in various lighting conditions, thanks to the new AF algorithm that uses deep-learning AI technology.

One of the features carried over from the X100V is the built-in 23mm f/2 lens, which is equivalent to a 35mm wide-angle prime. Another benefit of the 40MP sensor is the new 1.4x and 2x digital teleconverter modes that render effective equivalent focal lengths of 49mm and 70mm, respectively. It also includes a new Film Simulation mode called REALA ACE, bringing the total number of simulation modes to 20.

The inclusion of in-body image stabilization in an X100 series camera is a first. This 5-axis sensor-shift mechanism compensates for up to 6 stops of camera shake and provides a significant benefit for low-light shooters that helps keep photos and footage sharp when working with slow shutter speeds.

It is also able to accommodate this mechanism without adding weight to the camera body, with the same dimensions as its predecessor (5 x 3 x 2.1″) and only weighing 1.5 oz more. The camera also features the same 3.69m-dot EVF, 3.0″ 1.62m-dot touchscreen, and wireless connectivity options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

You can now pre-order the new Fujifilm camera on Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com for $1,599. The release date for the Fujifilm X100VI is set for February 28, 2024.

Fujifilm announced the X100VI four years after its predecessor, the X100V. However, the updates included in the X100VI make it worth the wait. The X100VI is an exciting camera that keeps Fujifilm in a unique place, straddling the classic and contemporary realms.
