Designed to cater to the needs of private customers and small businesses, this network-attached storage system provides ample storage with four slots and is equipped with two Ethernet ports. However, it’s important to note that a few features are missing from this model.
The Synology DiskStation DS423 is a budget network-attached storage solution that offers a wide range of functions, which is typical of Synology products. While it may not excel in overall performance, it serves as an affordable option for those on a budget.
Under the hood, the Synology DS423 is powered by the Realtek RTD1619B processor, a 64-bit chip featuring four fast computing cores clocked at 1.7 GHz. The DDR4 memory has a capacity of two gigabytes, although it’s worth mentioning that it cannot be expanded. The device provides four drive bays that support both 2.5- and 3.5-inch drives, allowing for easy installation and replacement during operation, such as in the case of a malfunction.
In contrast to higher-end network storage devices, the DS423 budget 4-Bay NAS lacks a 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet port. Instead, it relies on two Gigabit Ethernet ports, which support link aggregation. The compact DS423 measures 184 x 168 x 230 millimeters and weighs 2.21 kilograms. It also features two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for additional connectivity.
The DS423 boasts an extensive range of functions, making it effortless to share and synchronize data, including the ability to create a private cloud. The integration of the Btrfs file system and real-time storage of snapshots ensures a high level of data security. Furthermore, it supports video surveillance with up to 30 IP cameras and allows for remote access.
