The B&O Beoplay Portal is aimed primarily at buyers of an Xbox Series X, and the wireless gaming headphones cost just as much as Microsoft’s most expensive game console. For this steep price, Bang and Olufsen Xbox headset also offers features that are hard to find in other gamer headphones.
The Beoplay Portal was specially developed for the Xbox Series X | S because the Xbox Bluetooth headset has Microsoft’s 2.4 GHz Xbox wireless connection, which is supposed to transport the sound from the console to the headphones particularly reliably and with the lowest possible latency. Alternatively, the Bluetooth gaming headphones can also be connected to other devices such as smartphones via the supplied 3.5 mm AUX cable or via Bluetooth 5.1 with support for Qualcomm aptX Adaptive.
Drivers with a diameter of 40 millimeters not only promise first-class sound but also virtual surround sound with support for Dolby Atmos. A total of six microphones make it possible to chat with fellow players while at the same time annoying ambient noise is filtered, both for the conversation partner and for the wearer of the Beoplay Portal, because the headphones support adaptive noise cancellation (ANC).
Touch-sensitive surfaces and sliders on the sides make it possible, among other things, to quickly mute the microphones, change the volume, or control playback. The sound can be adjusted to your requirements using the app, and Bang & Olufsen even offers equalizer presets for different game genres.
The 282-gram Bang and Olufsen Xbox headset should be comfortable with a padded headband and leather earcups even during longer gaming sessions. The battery only lasts for twelve hours with a connection via Xbox Wireless, while Bluetooth is still possible for 24 hours with active ANC.
Beoplay Portal price and availability
The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal wireless gaming headphones have already been available to buy at Amazon.com and Bestbuy.com in Gray Mist, Navy, and Black Anthracite colors for a recommended retail price of $499.
Recently, Bang & Olufsen has also unveiled the premium Beoplay HX wireless noise reduction headphones. The headset supports Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology and can work offline for up to 35 hours. When the ANC function is off, the device can operate on a single charge for up to 40 hours and is also priced at $499.
