Aphex Twin and Novation Present AFX Station Limited Edition Keyboard Synthesizer

The Novation AFX Station limited edition reworks the original Bass Station II with updated firmware and a redesigned case with advanced features. It is designed in collaboration with electronic music legend Richard D James aka Aphex Twin. The original 25-key keyboard synthesizer was already a go-to instrument for basses as well as leads and arpeggiated performance.

Aphex Twin and Novation AFX Station Limited Edition Keyboard Synthesizer

Bass Station II is a classic and really popular monosynth. Now it’s “out”? What’s really coming? – No new machine, no AFX station, just a bass station II in Black color. The previous BS2s are probably sold out and a new batch is worthwhile. Why not dedicate it to whoever had the best idea with AFX mode?

So far there has been Korg’s monologue with sounds from AFX and the wonderful Aphex mode in Bass Station 2, which were also created in collaboration with Mr. James. The AFX mode made it possible to divide the keyboard in such a way that you can actually assign a different sound to each individual key and thus have an individual method of using all the possibilities of a patch. This is the perfect drum mode, but also the best method to make maximum use of the unison sound generation.

In the meantime, there are always new pictures, including that of the packaging. In terms of content, it is clear that it is a synthesizer, but not whether it is just a branding like “MoroderNova” or a modified device or an identical existing device. For Bass Station II it would be a bit “late” and a changed peak with 16 voices would be a conceivable sensible alternative that would also be different enough. Still, Bass Station II’s layout is more similar than anything else. Especially the left section with the arpeggiator is actually mapped within the “warp kink”.

Novation AFX Station price and availability

AFX Station has the same powerful feature set as Bass Station II, with the addition of Aphex Twin mastering, and AFX Mode pre-installed – is now available to pre-order on Bhphotovideo.com website for $439.99.

Recently, Arturia has also announced the MicroFreak Vocoder Limited Edition speech synthesizer and has a free firmware update 2.1 ready for all owners of a regular MicroFreak digital synthesizer keyboard.
