With an Intel Core Ultra 9 and a GeForce RTX 4090 with 16 GB VRAM, the Alienware x16 R2 not only promises enormous gaming performance, but Dell also offers a metal housing, a trackpad with RGB lighting, and a 480 Hz fast display in the premium segment.
Dell introduces the second-gen Alienware x16, still 18.6 millimeters thin like its predecessor but at 2.72 kilograms, not lightweight. No wonder considering the features, because the metal housing, which is made entirely of magnesium and aluminum, contains a 90 Wh battery and a mechanical keyboard with CherryMX Ultra Low Profile switches that have a travel of 1.8 millimeters.
The cooling system consists of four fans, a vapor chamber, and Alienware’s proprietary “Element 31” heat conductor. This cooling performance is also necessary because the top model has an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU with 16 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory and a power loss of 175 watts including 25 watts of dynamic boost. It also offers up to 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 RAM and up to 8TB storage via two M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
The 16-inch display has a 2560 x 1600 resolution with 240 Hz, with a 1080p, 480 Hz option coming post-launch. Depending on the equipment, Dell includes a 240-watt or 360-watt GaN power supply. Dell has installed two USB-C ports, including one with support for Thunderbolt 4, two USB-A, HDMI 2.1, mini-DisplayPort 1.4, and a microSD card reader. The keyboard, trackpad, and the laptop’s rear ring all feature RGB lighting.
