A Legend in the Effects Pedal: Origin Effects MAGMA57

The Californian amplifiers, which were built between 1937 and the 1970s, sometimes sound warm and delicious. The amps are traded between 500 and 5000 bucks, depending on the condition and series, the more expensive ones are mostly new models after the revival in 2013. Reason enough to look for a more up-to-date, more flexible, and cheaper variant such as the Origin Effects MAGMA57. And we all know that the name guarantees outstanding effects pedal.

Origin Effects MAGMA57 Effects Pedal

The venerable role model is the Magnatone Model 213 Troubadour from 1957, a 1 × 12 amplifier with two channels and 18 watts of output power. From the current point of view, the special thing was the FM vibrato, which was also installed by Fender at the time and sounds particularly warm.

In the Origin Effects MAGMA57 there is a replica of the original circuit, but without tubes, but with transistors. And it’s a real vibrato and not a wrongly titled volume modulation. Probably not 100% identical in sound, but in the videos linked below it just sounds super cozy and warm. It also ranges from normal wobble to rotary sounds.

There is the vintage-warm overdrive, which was originally conjured up from two 6V6 tubes in the power amplifier in cooperation with 12AX7 tubes in the preamp. It should also react particularly dynamically to the touch in the pedal and be adaptable to the special features of your own amplifier via a post-EQ. It has a buffered bypass and an additional foot switch input with which you can safely remote control the effects pedal in the rack or connect a Tap Tempo FS.

Output, tone and drive control overdrive, vibrato is set with intensity and speed controls and two toggle switches for blend and multi. The post-EQ using a toggle switch with 3 positions and an adjust control, which should probably be a kind of dry/wet.

Origin Effects MAGMA57 price and availability

The Origin Effects MAGMA57 is designed and built in England. In terms of price, it is not at the China level. The company is not known for bargains, so the MAGMA57 costs a lot at $459. And you can buy it on the Amazon.com website. Somehow we fell in love with the psychedelic and warm basic sound.
