Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STM Lens Announced: Price, Specs

In addition to the EOS R5, EOS R6, and RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM lens, Canon has one more announcement is the new Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STM lens. This is a compact, fairly fast, and inexpensive Canon macro lens.

The optical design includes 9, rounded diaphragm blades, and 12 elements in 11 groups, including 1 UD element. A minimum focusing distance of 0.35 m corresponds to a maximum magnification of 0.5x. The lens is equipped with an image stabilization system, the efficiency of which the manufacturer estimates at 5 EV.

The lens is compatible with filters with a diameter of 67 mm. The diameter of the lens itself is 78 mm, the length is 90.5 mm. The product weighs 500 g. The lens is not weatherproof, for this you will need to upgrade to a version with F/1.2.

It has an Optical Image Stabilizer that helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to five stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds. Also, a Hybrid IS setting compensates for angular and shift-type camera movements to specifically benefit close-up shooting. STM stepping motor offers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance that is ideal for video recording as well as still shooting.
