Tamron 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 Di III RXD zoom lens

Tamron can look back on a long, successful history in the manufacture of telephoto zoom lenses up to a focal length of 300 mm for DSLR cameras. The new 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 is the first model specially designed for mirrorless system cameras with full-frame sensors. The goal of the engineers was to make telephotography an effortless pleasure for photographers, regardless of their level of experience.

The new Tamron 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 Di III RXD not only offers exceptionally high image quality but with a length of 148 mm, a diameter of 77 mm, and a weight of only 545 g it is also the world’s most compact and lightest 70-300 mm zoom lens in its class. Cameras with an APS-C sensor have an effective focal length of 105-450 mm (KB equivalent).

With the telephoto zoom, distant subjects can be zoomed in more easily than ever. The longer focal length is not only suitable for sports, wildlife, and nature photography, it also provides a flattering perspective for portraits and street shots.

When used on a mirrorless camera system with a full-frame or APS-C sensor, the 70-300mm forms an optimally balanced unit. An effective focal length of 450mm (KB equivalent) is achieved on the APS-C sensor. The splash-proof housing makes the 70-300mm the ideal companion for outdoors and travel. Like the other models in the Tamron E series, it has a filter thread of 67 mm, so that a polarization or gray filter fits all models. The lens is also compatible with Sony’s advanced camera features such as B. Fast Hybrid AF and AF with Eye Detection that makes photography even easier.

The aim when developing the Tamron 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 Di III RXD was to develop a lens that makes telephotography easier and more convenient. The top priority for the engineers was low weight and compact dimensions. For this purpose, the optical structure of the lens was optimized and the most modern technologies were used in the construction. Without any loss in image quality, a surprisingly light and compact, slim lens with a maximum diameter of 77 mm could be developed at 545 g.

The optical system comprises 15 elements in 10 groups, including a high-precision LD (Low Dispersion) element for correcting longitudinal color errors and other optical errors that typically occur with telephoto focal lengths. The BBAR coating (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) developed by Tamron prevents quality-reducing reflections inside the lens barrel. Even at 300 mm, the resolution is very high right into the corners of the image. The very good imaging performance of the 70-300mm is perfected by the internal lens correction of the Sony cameras.

The autofocus is based on an exceptionally quiet RXD stepper motor (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping motor). In conjunction with the advanced camera functions from Sony, such as integrated image stabilization and eye-detection AF, you can take sharp telephoto shots from the freehand even in dynamic situations.

The autofocus system has a sensor that determines the current focus setting of the lens. This ensures quick and precise automatic focusing. The focus is continuously adjusted even with fast-moving subjects. The autofocus works very quietly so that no annoying focusing noises are recorded during video recordings.

Like the other lenses in the Tamron E-Series for mirrorless full-frame cameras, the 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 has a filter thread with a 67 mm diameter. This means that the same filters (e.g. polarization or gray filters) and lens caps can be used on all lenses in the series. The purchase of filters of different sizes is no longer necessary.

The lens ring and other critical points of the housing are sealed against moisture and splash water. This additional protection enables photography even in adverse weather conditions.
