With the Xperia 5 II, Sony is introducing another new premium smartphone. The Sony Xperia 5 II is the little brother of the Xperia 1 II (Hands-On) introduced in February this year and comes with numerous functions of the Sony flagship. Among other things, the Xperia 5II offers a 120 Hz display and eye autofocus for humans and animals.
Sony sends the Xperia 5 II as the smaller brother of the Sony Xperia 1 II in the race for buyers’ favor. Compared to the Xperia 1 II, Sony does without the ToF sensor in the 12 MP triple camera of the Xperia 5 II, instead, there is continuous autofocus with 60 fps real-time tracking and fast eye autofocus (Eye AF) for humans and animals. When it comes to camera lenses, the Xperia 5 II offers a 16 mm super wide-angle, 24 mm wide-angle, and 70 mm telephoto.
The Xperia 5 II from Sony also allows the recording of 4K HDR slow-motion video recordings at 120 fps and the recording and playback of up to 5x slow-motion at 24 fps. Videos in 21:9 cinema format are also possible in 4K HDR at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, and 60 fps. The device has a 3.5 mm jack socket for headphones. The Xperia 5 II 5G mobile phone is powered by a strong Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, which is supported by 128 GB of memory. A microSD card slot is available.
Sony’s Xperia 5 II measures a compact 158 x 68 x 8 millimeters and weighs 163 grams. The 6.1-inch OLED display offers 120 Hz (Xperia 1 II: 60 Hz) and a Full HD+ resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels in 21:9 format. Sony has now increased the battery capacity for the Xperia 5 II to 4,000mAh, but still lacks wireless charging. It is also protected against dust and water according to IP68.
