RICOH has announced a new compact camera – WG-70. An externally rugged, compact in size and is very similar to its predecessor WG-60. This applies to most of its specifications.
The RICOH WG-70 features IP68 certification so the camera is waterproof to a depth of 46 feet (14 meters), shockproof against a fall from a height of five feet (1.6 meters) and freeze-proof in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C).
The WG-70 uses a CMOS type backlit image sensor. Its optical format is 1/2.3 inches with a resolution of 16MP. The sensor is paired with a 28–140mm (35mm-equivalent focal length) lens and has a maximum aperture of F/3.5-F/5.5. The lens is surrounded by LEDs that allow you to highlight the subject during macro photography. The camera is capable of shooting Full HD video with a frame rate of 30fps or HD with a frequency of up to 120fps.
This new Ricoh camera is also comes equipped with an outdoor-friendly 2.7-inch LCD monitor with a brightness level that can be instantly adjusted to the lighting level of a shooting situation. The camera is 4.8 inches wide by 2.4 inches high by 1.2 inches deep and weighs approximately 6.8 ounces (including battery and SD memory card). It has a built-in flash, which can effective at distances of up to 5.5 m.
The RICOH WG-70 adds a number of newly developed features, including a digital microscope mode, which, combined with the use of LED illumination, allows the user to take close-up pictures. The camera also features an advanced underwater mode that optimizes color, contrast and white balance. The developer also added a new option for the effect of digital cross-processing, allowing the user to give the images an “artistic, changed color effect similar to the result of the cross-processing of film images” and expanding creative possibilities.
For connectivity, a USB 2.0 port is used to connect to a PC. There is also an HDMI output. Unlike the WG-50, the new rugged camera supports FlashAir cards, installed in the SD slot and providing Wi-Fi connectivity. With dimensions of 122.5 x 61.5 x 29.5 mm, a camera with a battery and memory card weighs about 193 g.
