Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f2.8 Macro lens for Leica L Mount

Panasonic introduced the Lumix S 100mm f2.8 Macro for L-mount, claiming it as the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame macro lens with a focal length exceeding 90mm. Its measurements showcase its compact nature: 73.6mm maximum diameter, 82mm length, and a mere weight of 298 grams.

Optically, this lens comprises 13 elements grouped into 11 units. Among these, three are aspherical elements, two are UED elements, and one is an ED lens. This arrangement significantly combats both chromatic and spherical aberrations, enhancing overall performance.

The lens incorporates the Dual Focus System, employing a novel dual-phase linear motor drive for the primary focus group. This setup ensures rapid autofocus and operates nearly silently. Meanwhile, a stepper motor drive controls the subfocus group.

Innovations extend to the diaphragm—a thinner 9-blade design with a reduced diameter. Additionally, engineers devised a high-density circuit board, optimizing space utilization within the lens.

Unique features include an enhanced focus ring mechanism and a GMR sensor that detects ring rotation six times more accurately than conventional methods. Its minimum focusing distance stands at 0.204 meters, complemented by a focus range limiter switch on the lens barrel.

Built to withstand dust and splashes, the Lumix S 100mm can endure temperatures as low as minus 10°C.
