Garmin launches Quatix 7, Quatix 7 Sapphire, and Quatix 7X Solar Smartwatches with unusual features

Garmin has introduced three brand new Marine GPS smartwatch models, all of which should impress with Garmin marine electronics, long battery life, a particularly waterproof housing, and always-on touchscreens. In addition, the Garmin Quatix 7 series offers some unusual features for boaters.

Garmin Quatix 7 Marine GPS watch

Garmin’s latest Marine watch is specifically aimed at boaters, as the Quatix 7 series can control the autopilot and fusion entertainment systems in conjunction with compatible boats. Important information such as draft, engine RPM, or wind speed can be displayed directly on the boat GPS smartwatch.

Even the fitness tracking features have been optimized for people who spend a lot of time on boats – there are sport modes for fishing, sailing, surfing, and Co. If a boat sets off without the anchor being lifted, the ocean GPS smartwatch shows a notification. The GPS marine watch also provides details on the ebb and flow, while the GPS module is said to collect precise data even on the high seas, so the location and route can be shown on a topographically correct map.

The battery life varies from 16 days for the basic model to 90 days for the top model with solar cells. The case is waterproof to a depth of 10 ATM, the display is protected from scratches by Gorilla Glass DX. Except for the top model, which relies on a titanium case with a DLC coating and sapphire glass. The Sapphire model has an AMOLED display, while the other two Garmin depth finders for boats use a more economical MiP panel that is easier to read in sunlight.

The list of features is even longer, because Garmin installs an NFC chip for mobile payment, a heart rate, and a SpO2 sensor and, depending on the model, 16 GB or 32 GB of flash memory to store music directly on the smartwatch. The standard and sapphire models have a diameter of 47 millimeters, the solar model is even larger at 51 millimeters. With a height of around 14.5 millimeters, the watches are not particularly slim either.
