HTC U12 Plus With 6-inch QHD+ Display, Dual 12MP + 16MP Rear Camera Launched: Price, Features and More

HTC U12 Plus has been officially unveiled by the Taiwanese company. We arrive at the moment of the announcement with very few innovations to discover, as many of the key specifications of the handset have emerged in recent leaks.

The official datasheet of the HTC U12+ confirms many of the details discussed above and among these, we find the large 6.0-inch Super LCD 6 display with QHD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass and supports the DCI-P3 and sRGB color gamut as well as offering full compatibility with the HDR10 standard.

HTC chooses to maintain some unaltered distinctive elements of its design and as a result, we do not find a notch or but it comes with thin edges. Inside the body, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with Adreno 630 GPU, 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 2TB, LTE connectivity up to 1.2Gbps (also present a Dual SIM variant), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, AGPS, Glonass, BeiDou and Galileo, WiFi a / b / g / n / ac, USB Type-C 3.1 with DisplayPort support, IP68 certification, rear fingerprint sensor and a 3500mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Everything is based on Android 8.0 Oreo with HTC Sense interface.

The audio sector is entrusted to the dual Boomsound HiFi speakers which present a particular separation between the tweeters and woofers, in order to offer extremely high audio quality. Presented by HiRes certification, support for Qualcomm aptX HD and 32-bit LDAC. The sales package also includes a pair of HTC Usonic earphones with active noise cancellation, but the 3.5 mm audio jack is missing.

The photographic compartment of HTC U12+ is composed of a main Dual Cam, able to totalize more than 100 points on DxOMark, equipped with a 12MP HTC UltraPixel 4 rear camera (1.4 μm pixels and f/1.75 aperture) optically stabilized, assisted by a secondary 16MP telephoto lens (1.0 μm pixels and f/2.6 aperture) which allows the 2x zoom without loss of detail and to go up to 10x.

Among the main features, HTC highlights the ability to make videos in 4K at 60fps and slow-motion 1080p at 240fps. To this, we add an improvement of the Sonic Zoom technology that allows amplifying the sound coming from the zoomed area by 60% more (compared to the previous implementation) and improves the sound focus of 33%. The audio recording also makes use of the presence of 4 microphones that allow capturing the sound coming from all directions.

The device also has the laser focus system and combines it with the PDAF to get what HTC calls UltraSpeed Autofocus 2. We also find support for HDR Boost 2, manual controls with exposure up to 32 seconds, support for AR stickers and portrait mode.

For selfie, we find a dual 8MP camera (1.12 μm pixels and f/2.0 aperture) with support for portrait mode, HDR Boost, 84-degree viewing angle, AR stickers, face unlock and the possibility of using the screen as a front flash.

HTC U12 Plus Design

HTC U12+ uses a design called Liquid Surface, thanks to the adoption of a rear glass panel – semi-transparent in the Translucent Blue edition which also offers interesting light effects. The other two colors include the Ceramic Black and Flame Red.

The metal side frame also offers a housing for pressure sensors that allow the use of the Edge Sense 2 gesture, now even richer and more precise, also able to distinguish which hand is used for their activation. Among the main highlights include double-tap, the ability to hold the edges to lock the rotation, quick shortcuts to camera, Google Assistant and to the favorite apps and the ability to take advantage of the majority of applications on the Play Store.
