The Sony USA has released the new firmware update that enables Dolby Vision on some TVs. The firmware named PKG6.2818.0070NAA version was released today on 16 January 2018, and can also be downloaded from the official website (the file size is about 1.57 GB).
Recall that the update is also expected in Europe as well. There is the talk of a progressive release that will start from the end of January 2018 and will finish by the end of February.
The supported models are the same ones that have already been confirmed several times in 2017. So let’s talk about the smart TVs equipped with the 4K HDR X1 Extreme processor. Support should include all available sources, streaming and also Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Upgraded Sony TVs are the A1 Series OLEDs, the 2017 XE93 and XE94 Series LCDs and the 2016 ZD9 Series LCDs. We remind you that Dolby Vision is a format for managing videos in HDR. The difference compared to HDR10, the basic format is the use of dynamic metadata, information that allows you to optimize the video performance by intervening frame by frame.
