Apple HomePod: Smart Home Speaker with built-in Siri and Apple Music at WWDC 2017

Apple Home speaker with Siri voice assistant has been unveiled at WWDC 2017, called Apple HomePod, which the company says will “reinvent music in the home”. This new Siri-powered home speaker will significantly improve the music listening experience in your home. The HomePod price will be fall around $349 and will be available from December in US, UK, and Australia in White and Space Grey color variants.

Mr. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said: “Apple reinvented portable music with iPod and now HomePod will reinvent how we enjoy music wirelessly throughout our homes,” also add, “HomePod packs powerful speaker technology, Siri intelligence and wireless access to the entire Apple Music library into a beautiful speaker that is less than 7 inches tall, can rock most any room with distortion-free music and be a helpful assistant around your home.”

Apple HomePod is 360-degree speaker integrated Apple’s A8 processor which is used on the iPhone devices support to handle high-quality sound technology from 7 tweeters, 1 bass at the top, and especially support multi-room feature of connecting multiple speakers in the house. In addition to the built-in Apple Music, and Siri voice assistant, so you can say “Hey Siri” from anywhere in your house.

On exterior design, the HomePod has a cylindrical-shaped 360-degree design, top of the speaker has a 4-inch subwoofer and 7-tweeter under it. This speaker system is controlled by Apple’s A8 processor similar to the iPhone. With the HomePod you can manually adjust the sound output to suit different environments and also identify new melodies.

Of course, Apple HomePod has built-in Apple Music, which allows users to wirelessly access their song library without a phone. In addition, the HomePod comes with six microphones which are not just used for Siri but as the company says it can also be used for various purposes. Specifically, it will be a combination of Siri and Apple Music, you can say “Hey Siri, who’s the drummer in this?” And Siri will be able to give you an answer. Siri will also be able to create a shared Up Next queue with everyone in the home.

On security, Apple said that the HomePod will not perform a task until the user calls “Hey Siri” and it will only send the Siri ID anonymous data. In addition to the intelligent functions of a standalone speaker, the HomePod can also be linked to devices in Apple’s ecosystem, as well as connect multiple speakers, support multi-room music playback, and self-play functions. Connect intelligently, HomePod will also be associated with many other devices in the HomeKit platform. Apple has not released details of this feature yet, but certainly, we will soon know better.
