Android P Beta Now also Available on Sony Xperia XZ2

Once again Sony confirms its great attention to the issue of Android updates, allowing its Xperia XZ2 to join the circle of handsets that can access the new Android P beta program.

The Japanese flagship is one of only two smartphones – the other is Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – to be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, the most powerful SoC made by the US chipmaker, so it is able to offer an experience of the use of Android P at the top of the category.

Sony has published a support page dedicated to all users curious to try the latest release of Android on their XZ2. Within the same, it is proposed a brief recap of the main features of the Android P and the guide to follow to install the software on the smartphone.

Please note that the variants of Xperia XZ2 currently supported are those with product number H8216, H8266 and H8296, while it is not possible to install on custom versions by operators. Once the data has been backed up since the procedure will cause the device to be completely formatted, it will be necessary to install the Xperia Companion v2.1 application on the PC (download HERE), connect the smartphone and follow these steps:

• Start Xperia Companion
• Hold down the ALT key (on computer) and click on “Software Repair” on the home screen
• Tick the checkbox “My device cannot be detected or started”, then click “Next”
• Wait for the initialization to complete, then follow the instructions on the screen

If you want to return to the stable version of Android, you will need to repeat the same procedure without holding down the ALT key. From now all Android P updates will be released via OTA. Of course, we remind you that, since it is a beta software, it is possible that the user experience is lower than that found previously, especially with regard to a battery and any bugs. Proceed only if you are aware of what you are doing.
